Role Definition
Junior mechanical engineers test, build, and develop mechanical devices of all types, including machines, engines, and tools.
Position requires to work at our premises, located in Linbro Wedge Business Park, Unit 3, 74 1st road, Libro Park, Sandton.
However, some on-site and weekend work may be required to complete necessary tasks and meet deadlines.
Junior mechanical engineers reports to senior mechanical engineers/senior management.
Job Description
Junior mechanical engineers are responsible for isolating and fixing problems as well as creating and designing brand-new products, machines, and tools. They complete the following duties on a regular basis:
*Create Mechanical Designs and Drawings
The junior mechanical engineer creates highly detailed design schematics for various components of a project, either from scratch or on conversion of existing pdf drawings.
*Write Precise Calculations
Any mechanical engineering project requires writing out precise calculations before any hands-on mechanical work begins.
*Test Products for Functionality
Calculations must be tested and retested to isolate problems with mechanical equipment. The junior mechanical engineer must re-engineer products when problems are found and recalculate to return products to full functionality.
*Prepare Reports for Senior Engineers and/or Management
Junior mechanical engineers report to senior mechanical engineers and/or
Management creating detailed reports and summaries of ongoing projects to keep their supervisors up-to-date.
*Collaborate with Engineering and Technical Team
Junior mechanical engineers may complete some projects alone, but in most cases they work as part of an engineering and /or technical team. This requires frequent communication and daily collaboration to make sure all aspects of the project are being addressed, and to ensure that no one is working on the same problem at the same time.
*Collaborate with suppliers for the manufacturing and/ or surface treatment of parts
Junior mechanical engineers may engage with supplier during the external manufacturing process, from the machining of parts up to the finishing treatments. This requires visit to supplier’s site, communication with them and coordination of activities to maintain the progress of activities in line with agreed schedules and plans.
*Communicate with clients on updating ongoing projects / orders and/or assessment of new request.
Junior mechanical Engineer is tasked with the handling of communication with clients in term of status update, manufacturing plan and all other requirement that the assigned account(s) may generate for the smooth and fruitful handling of the client / supplier relationship.
*Supervise the QC process of the manufactured parts
Junior Mechanical Engineer is tasked with the confirmation of the internal QC process, up to the certification of the compliancy of the manufactured parts, both in term of material and surface treatment as well as conformity of the applicable dimensions and tolerances.
Company reserves the right to review and expand assignment based on the production and manufacturing requirement.
Changes in role and responsibility will be discussed and agreed upon, before implementation, with reciprocal respect of Company’s interest and needs as well as Employee’s duties and responsibilities.
